1. Start Packing Early- Don’t wait until the last minute to start packing your things. By starting early this will give you time to go through your stuff and get rid of excess stuff you have collected since your last move.
2. Stay Organized- A systematic packing process will help you to stay organized on move in day. Organize all boxes by room and label them clearly so you know what is in each box. This way if you need to find anything then it will be easier to know what box it was put in.
3. Consolidate your Belongings- Use your dressers, baskets, suitcases and anything else you can pack items in to cut down on the number of boxes you’re moving. Keep all of your clothes in your dresser, and wrap the whole thing with plastic wrap so the drawers stay closed.
4. Ask for Help- This may be the most important way to make your moving day run smoothly. Get as much help as possible. You can hire movers or enlist some friends to help, but the more help you have the better.
5. Move Some Stuff Early- If possible try to move some of your belongings early. Even if it’s just a few suitcases or important breakable things you won’t have to worry about keeping an eye on during moving the rest of your things.
6. Prepare Everything the Night Before- You should not have anything to do on your moving day but move. That means everything from cleaning out the fridge, to repairing the holes in your walls, to packing up every last toiletry should be done the night before. Keep some items that you’ll need that night or the next morning in a small suitcase or tote, and put everything else in its box.
7. Pack the Truck Strategically- When packing the moving truck make sure you load all of the furniture and heavy items first. Then follow that with your boxes and other miscellaneous items. Always remember to load biggest to smallest.
